Smyrna Student Art Contest 2026: Our City Through Your Eyes

The Smyrna Historical Society invites students in Grades K–12 to participate in the 2026 Student Art Contest, “Our City Through Your Eyes.”

This contest encourages young artists to creatively express what Smyrna means to them by highlighting lesser-known landmarks, blending historical and modern elements, and incorporating Smyrna’s Jonquil City heritage.

Eligibility: Students in Grades K–12 who reside in Smyrna
Artwork: Two-dimensional artwork (drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, printmaking, or original photography)
Artist Statement: Up to 500 characters explaining the inspiration and connection to Smyrna

Prizes awarded in each age category (K–3, 4–8, 9–12):
• 1st Place – $100
• 2nd Place – $50
• 3rd Place – $25

Submission Window: February 1 – April 3, 2026
Winners Announced: May 15, 2026

Winning artwork may be reproduced by the Smyrna Historical Society for educational and promotional use.

What is the Smyrna Student Art Contest?

Is an artist statement required?

Yes. Each submission must include a short artist statement (up to 500 characters) explaining the inspiration for the artwork and how it represents Smyrna.

When can artwork be submitted?

The submission window is February 1 through April 3, 2026.

Where do students submit their artwork?

Artwork may be submitted: Through the student’s school art teacher, or Directly to the Smyrna History Museum

Is there an entry fee or ticket required?

No. There is no entry fee and no ticket required to participate in this contest.

How will the artwork be judged?

Entries will be evaluated based on: Creativity and originality Presentation and craftsmanship Interpretation of the theme Historical relevance Judging will be conducted by members of the Smyrna Historical Society Board.

Are there prizes?

Yes. In each age category, prizes will be awarded as follows: 1st Place: $100 2nd Place: $50 3rd Place: $25

When will winners be announced?

Winners will be announced on May 15, 2026.

What happens to winning artwork?

Winning entries grant permission for the Smyrna Historical Society to reproduce the artwork for educational, promotional, and digital use.

Does the artwork have to be original?

Yes. All submissions must be original, student-created work and may not infringe on copyrighted material.
