Fall is certainly bringing change to the SHM. We have launched our redesign project in collaboration with Building Four Fabrication, located in Chamblee. They are “a full service exhibits and display firm specializing in custom fabricated exhibit environments as well as hospitality & custom artwork.” Contact Jonathan Scott and I will be working together to craft exhibit text with key stakeholder groups, such as SHS. Building Four Fabrication will provide input for the critical task of exhibit design and will take the lead on the fabrication and installation of the new exhibit pieces.
Building Four’s most recent exhibit work, Barbeque Nation, can be seen at the Atlanta History Center, which runs until September 29, 2019. This temporary exhibit explores how barbecue has come to claim the heart of America and how it connects us to cultures around the world.
Their work was so well received by the Atlanta History Center that they were also hired to work on the diorama portion of the new Cyclorama exhibit.
Since this project includes a total refresh on the SHM’s exhibit space, I am working with volunteers to document, take down, and store the existing exhibits. Each object currently on display is being recorded and carefully boxed in archival quality storage downstairs in our climate controlled storage area. If you would like to help, see the sign up page here.
